FRESHMEN: Greetings from England

Hello there:
My name’s Manuel Sanhueza and I’m a 4th-year student on this degree. Since last September, I’ve been living in England, as part of a programme sponsored by the British Council, called Foreign Language Assistant. Basically, I’m teaching Spanish in an English secondary school in the city of Manchester (Northwestern England), and I’m coming back in June. The experience of living in another country is awesome, but it’s even better if that country is the one you’ve always wanted to live in. The school I’m working in is called MC&MA G (Manchester Creative & Media Academy for Girls), and I teach Spanish to girls from Year 7 to Year 11 ( 11-16 years old). It’s really nice to be the only man who speaks Spanish in the whole school, but sometimes it is a big responsibility because you’re the only representative of an entire language, so I’ve had to study Spanish grammar as well, and let me tell you that we’re lucky to be native speakers ‘cause Spanish is a lot more difficult than English in terms of grammar. But not everything is about working! I’ve met lots of new people and I’ve visited some beautiful places around Europe, such as London, Birmingham, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Italy, France, etc. So, apart from teaching Spanish and improving your English Language skills, you also learn to respect and tolerate many different cultures and lifestyles that we are not used to seeing in Chile, and that’s something that not only makes you a good professional, but a better person. FRESHMEN! I hope you’ve made a good start at Uni, and as a useful tip: STUDY HARD! And try your best to always be on top form, ‘cause in the end you’ll realise that every grade counts, so…have fun! =)

Cheers lads! And hope to see you soon.
Take Care.

Manuel Sanhueza MaNoLo!
